IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kim Elizabeth
Cunningham
November 16, 2024
Our beloved Kim Cunningham departed this life on November 16, 2024, at the age of 63. Kim was born in Harlem, New York, on November 2, 1961, to Allen Leslie and Katherine Young. She was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth, intellect, and strength touched all who knew her. Kim grew up in Harlem surrounded by family, including her cherished cousins Crystal and Melissa Mamby, with whom she shared a close bond. As a young girl, she discovered her love for dance at Ruth Williams Dance Studio, where she not only honed her ballet skills but also formed lasting friendships that remained integral to her life. Her love for the arts and culture continued throughout her years, and it was during this time that she began to develop a deep appreciation for African American history and politics. A proud and dedicated member of the Army Reserves, Kim served her country with honor before receiving an honorable discharge. Her commitment to service and the well-being of others remained a hallmark of her character throughout her life. In her professional life, Kim worked for many years as a clinical supervisor at New York Family Treatment Court where she was known for her exceptional organizational skills, dedication, and ability to connect with everyone she worked with. She brought the same passion and commitment to her work that she did to her community and family, making a lasting impact on those around her. In her adult years, Kim’s passions evolved into a profound dedication to the causes she cared about. She spent many hours researching and writing on African American culture and history, always striving to share the stories and legacies of those who came before her. Kim was also an avid gardener, enjoying the peace and satisfaction of cultivating beautiful spaces, and enjoyed baking, known for her delicious treats that brought joy to family gatherings. Her creativity, intelligence, and generosity were felt by all who crossed her path. Kim Cunningham will be deeply missed, but her spirit, her passion for justice, and her love for her family will never be forgotten.
